Abhay Charanaravinda Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada was the founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, commonly known as the "Hare Krishna movement". Followers of ISKCON view Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada as a representative and messenger of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
Srila Prabhupada, affectionately regarded as our spiritual guide and founder-acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), was a profound spiritual luminary who dedicated his life to spreading the teachings of Bhakti across the globe. Born as Abhay Charan De in Kolkata, India, in 1896, Srila Prabhupada embarked on an extraordinary spiritual journey after meeting his guru, Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura. Following his guru's instructions, Srila Prabhupada, at the age of 69, fearlessly journeyed to the United States in 1965, where he selflessly introduced the transformative philosophy of Krishna consciousness, initiating a movement that would touch the lives of countless seekers.
As followers of Srila Prabhupada, we cherish the profound impact of his teachings. Through the establishment of ISKCON in 1966, he laid the foundation for a global spiritual community, emphasizing the chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra, the study of sacred scriptures, and the distribution of sanctified food. Srila Prabhupada's literary contributions, including translations and commentaries on pivotal Vedic texts, serve as timeless guides for spiritual seekers worldwide. His departure in 1977 marked the physical end of his earthly journey, but his legacy continues through the dedicated efforts of followers who, inspired by his profound love for God and humanity, strive to share the gift of Krishna consciousness and live by the principles he so ardently advocated.
